Anthropic launched Claude Tag, a beta that lets Team and Enterprise customers summon @Claude into a Slack channel to take on multi-step tasks and report back.
The twist is identity. Unlike a per-user assistant, everyone in a channel shares a single Claude that remembers the channel's history, so one colleague can pick up exactly where another left off. An optional ambient mode lets it surface relevant updates unprompted, and administrators scope which tools and memories Claude can reach in each channel. It runs on Opus 4.8 and replaces the older Claude in Slack app, with a 30-day window to opt in and migrate.
A shared, channel-scoped agent is a bet that the unit of AI work is the team, not the individual. It also hands admins a new surface to govern, because one wrong scope could leak the wrong tools or memories across teams.
