Claude went down today. Well, half of it did. Users flooded Hacker News with outage reports. Standard Claude chat kept working for some people. Claude Code, Anthropic's coding tool, did not. Anthropic runs these services on separate infrastructure. When one goes down, the other might stay up. That's good architecture. But developers depending on Claude Code face outages that casual chat users never notice. Status page links circulated as people tracked the problem. At least the monitoring runs on separate infrastructure too. No postmortem yet from Anthropic. Small comfort if you're a developer staring at a dead coding assistant mid-sprint.
